Né un 22 mars, donc entre deux périodes de festivités musicales, le carnaval et les raras, Derry DELINOIS, de son nom d’artiste, DON Q, originaire de la périphérie de la ville de Nissage SAGET, est un enfant predestiné à la musique haïtienne. Cadet d’une famille de huit garnements, il s’illustrait jour et nuit avec des extraits de chants, dont du vaudou, rythme très répandu dans sa commune où la réligion ancestrale haïtienne est très pratiquée. Sa grand’ mère, dotée d’on ne sait quel pouvoir de prédiction voyait déjà en lui un badjigan, choriste dans les temples de vaudou. 

Vers les débuts des années 80, le jeune Derry est attiré par l’évolution du Compas, avec la montée en force de nombreux ténors de l’industrie musicale haïtienne, dont le Tabou Combo de Roger M. EUGENE, le Skah Shah de Jean Elie TELFORT, les Frères DEJEAN de Pétion-Ville, les deux grands rivaux de l’époque, Scorpio et DP Express, sans oublier la fierté capoise, le Tropicana D’Haïti. Quelques années plus tard, l’attirance du jeune passionné se travestit en amour, car la musique haïtienne va connaître une floraison particulièrement magnifique avec la naissance de la Nouvelle Génération. Inspiré par les oeuvres de Garry Didier PEREZ, en passant par Mizik Mizik, Zenglen et finalement Ozone, Ralph CONDÉ de Papash, Alan CAVÉ de ZIN… , il ne rêve que de prendre le micro et faire vibrer les foules. 


Depuis environ 27 ans, il a émigré pour les États – Unis, où il vit avec sa ravissante fille de 10 ans. Sur le plan musical, il a eu son baptême de feu, au cours d’une cérémonie de graduation dans son école. Il eut à interpréter l’hymne national des États Unis, exécution qu’il réalisa avec beaucoup de classe au point qu’il reçut une ovation à la hauteur de sa prestation. Avec son ami Roody Apollon, il fait un timide début au sein du groupe RACINES, peu de temps après, les deux complices font un détour au sein d’une formation de New Jersey ‘’DETOUR’’. 

Au cours des années 90, il rencontra le maître incontestable et incontesté de la nouvelle tendance musicale haïtienne, Alan CAVÉ. Aidé par ce dernier, il devint plus fort, plus motivé, disposé à réussir. En tandem, ils ont composé ‘’MenmJan’’, succès qui a figuré sur le cd ‘’Sé pa pou dat’’. Bientôt, il sort son premier laser, mais en attendant il nous gratifie d’un super morceau, titré ‘’Tell me where you’ve been ?’’, en créole‘’ Di’m ki koté ou té yé ?’’. Et bientôt dans la prochaine compilation titré “Tubes Antillais” de son mentor Alan Cavé, cette version sera retrouvée. Nous souhaitons du succès et beaucoup d’avenir à ce jeune luron de la musique haïtienne!

Singer-Songwriter

Born on March 22nd, between two periods of musical festivities—Carnival and the Rara festivals—Derry Delinois, better known as Don Q, hails from the outskirts of Nissage Saget and was destined for Haitian music. The youngest of eight children, he entertained everyone day and night with snippets of songs, including Vodou music, a rhythm widely practiced in his community where Haiti's ancestral religion is deeply rooted. His grandmother, possessing some unknown power of prophecy, already envisioned him as a badjigan, a chorister in Vodou temples.

Around the beginning of the 1980s, young Derry was drawn to the evolution of Compas music, with the rise of many leading figures in the Haitian music industry, including Roger M. Eugene's Tabou Combo, Jean Elie Telfort's Skah Shah, the Dejean Brothers from Pétion-Ville, the two major rivals of the time, Scorpio and DP Express, not to mention Cap-Haïtien's pride and joy, Tropicana D'Haïti. A few years later, the young enthusiast's attraction blossomed into love, as Haitian music experienced a particularly magnificent flowering with the birth of the New Generation. Inspired by the works of Garry Didier Perez, through Mizik Mizik, Zenglen, and finally Ozone, Ralph Condé of Papash, Alan Cavé of ZIN..., he dreamed only of taking the microphone and thrilling the crowds.

For about 27 years, he has lived in the United States with his lovely 10-year-old daughter. Musically, he had his baptism of fire during a graduation ceremony at his school. He had to perform the American national anthem, a performance he delivered with such class that he received a well-deserved standing ovation. With his friend Roody Apollon, he made a tentative debut in the band RACINES, and shortly after, the two friends joined a New Jersey band called DETOUR.

During the 1990s, he met the undisputed master of the new Haitian musical trend, Alan Cavé. With Cavé's help, he became stronger, more motivated, and determined to succeed. Together, they composed "Menm Jan," a hit that appeared on the CD "Sé pa pou dat." He will soon release his first album, but in the meantime, he has treated us to a fantastic track titled "Tell me where you've been?" (in Creole, "Di'm ki koté ou té yé?"). This version will soon be included on his mentor Alan Cavé's upcoming compilation, "Tubes Antillais." We wish this young star of Haitian music continued success and a bright future!
